This sideboard was made to accommodate a slight step in the wall which accommodated a built-in wardrobe, and was intended to provide storage space for books, folders and small drawing implements.

A large open section at the bottom was originally intended to hold a small television, and will hold large books or items equally well.

The wider shelf at worktop height extends slightly further to give a spot for placing the 'everyday' items so they are ready to hand. Above this six small cubbyholes provide a place for those smaller items, and above are shelves for books and files.

While I was building it in a way which was simply informed by the narrow planks of pine I was using, in retrospect it has an Arts & Crafts look to it- if only I had built it from oak this would have been even more so!
