My second attempt at making furniture after the custom-fit desk, this lamp was inspired by Oriental trends- Shoji paper sliding screens, the slightly uneven reflections of black enamel and understated subtle design.

Built from 45x45mm meranti wood, and 9x9mm pine trim this was a small but very fussy creation, especially as I was using only the most basic of tools- a handsaw, drill, screwdrivers and scissors were pretty much all I had back then!

Although simple the end result is dramatic- the chunkiness of the frame contrasts with the delicate grid of black enamel, and the red light inside glows softly through the thick textured paper, bringing out all the little lumps and bumps of the paper grain.
